Spring Flow, 10" x 9"

Rocks have never been my favorite subject to paint but at a recent workshop with Robert Carsten, one of his paintings inspired me to challenge myself on this subject; after all, what's the point of taking a workshop and paint easy things?

This was my second workshop with him, but this time I spent most of the two days working on a single scene with a rocky wall. Robert kept me going at it when I would have given up or would have considered the painting done. His point was that I need to learn to go the extra mile! I also learned that you reach a point in the painting when you need to stop, think, and make decisions that sometimes deviate from what you originally wanted.

Most of this scene, was done during the last hour of the workshop, by then, rocks did not seem so scary a subject anymore.

OMGosh Adriana! Once again you have painted a wonderful pastel. I looked up Robert Carsten and love his "Tractor with Hay". He's quite an inspiration. Again, beautiful job.

You've done a beautiful job with those rocks. Robert Carsten must be a good teacher if you've been to a couple of his workshops. It is always great to find someone who can impart their knowledge well.

Adriana, this is a stunning piece! If you read my post from last Thursday, you saw a picture of me and my first sweetheart. I went on Google after I had posted it because I wanted to add another photo of him, and there in Google images was that photo of the two of us that had been picked up by Google. I was showing Rod today what I had found, and he Googled me on images. There I was! and when I scrolled down, I found your painting that I had posted on my blog!!!

Hilda, I'm glad you like it! One of my favorites of Carsten's is a winter scene done on orange paper with the red barn right in the center!
Elaine,Thank you! Carsten is a good teacher and a great artist. He paints in different styles because he likes to explore. I find that very inspiring and can imagine it to be very liberating too!
Judie I saw it too in the google images associated to your post. Than you again! BYW, that was a cute pic of you!
