Peeking Through, 7"x 5"

I recently heard a good instructor say that if you have a building in the focal area of a painting there is not much point in hiding it with trees, etc.

I have thought a lot about that because I happen to like things that are half-way hidden! What I liked about the reference photo was the quiet statement the house made amid so much color.

The house peeking thru adds another layer of bringing the viewer in: who lives there, what do they do....etc, I like little "peeks." Good for you!

I agree with your thoughts, Adriana. I like the thrill of the hunt! I prefer to be surprised by whatever is behind a tree or partially covered by a branch. Nice painting!

Beautiful Fall scene Adriana, with lots of great color. I actually like the house hidden a little as well. A little bit more interesting that way!!

I think your placement of the trees in front of the house works very well. The house becomes more a part of the landscape, rather than a separate object. It attracts attention, but then recedes so you can enjoy all the colors of the leaves. Very nice!

Cindy, Donna, Hilda, and Dan, Thank you so much! I'm glad to know that you think like I do on this subject. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond but I've been recovering from the flu and my energy levels have been low. I do appreciate your posting comments here.
