Brooding Sky, 13x13 pastel on Pastelmat by Adriana Meiss |
On Tuesday I delivered 17 paintings to the Edgewood Gallery for the Play on Light exhibit which opens today. I was still framing that very morning--talk about rushing! Of those, 14 are new ones, that even though I have posted them here in the last months, have not been exhibited before.
The last month in particular was very productive. Knowing that the deadline was fast approaching made me work even harder. Several times I started working on scenes that were not part of the original plan, like the one above. Luckily for me, some worked out, but two others did no make the cut so I had to put myself back on track and continue working on the larger pieces. Now I have 6 paintings left to finish ....

very pretty...
Deb, thank you for visiting and commenting!
I really like this one, Adriana. It looks like a storm is coming but you didn't make the colors too dark or depressing. Your show is really wonderful - I'm so glad I got to see it!
Donna, It was a treat meeting you! Thank you for coming to the opening! This painting was done on mounted Pastelmat. I had tried this paper before but wasn't that impressed by it. When figuring out what support to use for this painting I remembered I had a large sheet of Pastelmat. It struck me as great for clouds.
Powerful sky, Adriana! I love this painting...all the subtle colors in the clouds are really beautiful! I loved working on pastelmat..I just feel its harder to frame...but love the feel of it when the pastel goes on it.
Thank you Hilda!
I took a large sheet of Pastelmat to have it dry-mounted on acid free foamboard. I think most frame shops can do this for you at low cost. From now on Pastelmat will be my first choice for cloud scenes- most amazing was that I did not used my fingers that much for blending, just the side of the pastel.
Ah, the colours reach out to caress the soul with their gentle evocative subtleties! Don’t laugh; it is really what I felt when I accidentally stumbled over your blog. Your paintings remind me very much of scenes described by the French writer, Alain Fournier, in his only novel ‘Le grand Meaulnes’. Exquisite paintings!
From a complete ignorant who has no background or knowledge in painting!
Sisyphus Uphill, Thank you for stopping by and for your touching words! I think most artists hope to bring such feelings in the viewers. You've made my day!
