Two Small Pastels (5x7")

Sunlit, pastel on Ampersand Pastelboard by Adriana Meiss
For quite some time I have been thinking of painting the scene above. The arrival of spring finally pushed me to the task. This painting and the one below were intended for an upcoming guild show and sale at the end of the month, but I like them so much that I'm not sure I'm ready to frame them yet.

Golden Hour, pastel on Ampersand Pastelboard by Adriana Meiss
I often tell myself not to fall in love with my own paintings because the best ones are yet to come. Sometimes it's hard to live by your own maxims... What do you do with your best ones?

These are SO beautiful, Adriana..I especially love the second on...
The way the light is hitting the bushes in Golden Hour is truly beautiful.! If there's a spot on my wall, I will keep my favorites..
I guess I'm a little possessive! LOL

Sarah, Thank you for your comment. Considering that at most, I keep 1% of what I paint per year, that's basically letting all my babies go, right? ;-)

Hilda Thank you! I tend to be possessive with other things, but letting go of paintings is for me more of a survival thing: if I keep them in my studio I won't have a place to work!

Beautiful work, Adriana, don't you love working in a small format?

Thank you ,Dave!
Working in small format has it's advantages:
-you can determine almost right away if you have a good composition and color scheme,
-small size paintings sell better at fairs/outdoor shows,
-they don't take as long to paint.
-and best of all, you figure out if something is worth repeating in a larger format.

On the other hand, you need to simplify the subject to make the painting work.
